Divine Lust - The New Musical - AUDITIONS

Divine Lust will play in a 45 minute presentation/workshop for two performances on July 7th, 2010 at the historic Stella Adler Theater in Hollywood!

Co-created and written by World Music Artist Glenda Benevides and Broadway star of Grammy Award winning Rent and Aida Damian Perkins, Divine Lust-The New Musical is a magical journey about Love, Forgiveness and the secret of greatness!

We are seeking talent who meet the following criteria:

-18+ years old
-Ethnically diverse
-Strong actors with strong dance and vocal experience (gymnastics, contortionists, belly dancing a plus but not required).

SEEKING ALL ETHNICITIES FOR THE FOLLOWING:

Young Daya (18-older to play 18, must physically resemble Glenda Benevides, who plays older Daya): A fierce beauty, brown eyed, Daya is of royal blood. Strong-willed and passionate, she marries Nissim out of love, but finds the pressures from her parents to marry for money and to unite the two families all too much to bear. Must sing and move well.

Young Nissim (18-older to play 18-20): A handsome and regal young man, Nissim is devout and humble but also fun and playful. He is the embodiment of a true gentleman. Nissim marries young Daya out of seer love. As his parents are newly wealthy, they encourage him to marry to unite the families. Despite his wife's and friends ill-advised choices, he stays true and loyal to her and finds the secret of greatness.

Narcees (10-older to play 20, then 35, as in act 2 the play continues 15 years later): Rich, snobby and "best-friend" to Nissim. Narcees is self-centered and covert and tries to encourage Nissim to break his vows and loyalty to his wife. Must sing and be a STRONG actor.

Shiva (18-older to play 18, then 30ish, as in act 2 the play continues 15 years later): Shiva is Daya's best friend. Sweet, innocent and kind, Shiva sticks by Daya through everything, even as she sees her friends, (including Daya), become jaded. Must sing and strong actress a plus.

Daya's Mother (50's): Haughty and a sycophant, Daya's Mother is of royal lineage and only cares for two things; money and power. She makes it VERY clear to Daya that true love doesn't exist and her wedding is ONLY to filfill her duty. Mean. Strong actress, good singer a plus.

Daya's Father (50's-60's): Also rich and powerful Daya's Father is a duke. Grizzled and hardened by years of politics he too only cares for more power, but perhaps at a time he wasn't so jaded...

Nissim's Father (50's): Newly rich and powerful, Nissim's father pushes his son's wedding, as it will make him part of the royal family. A bit greedy and wirey, he is over-eager and a zealot.

Nissim's Mother (40's): Also newly rich, Nissim's Mother knows the only way to become more powerful is for her son to marry Daya. Strong actress, singing a plus.

Hachteem (18-older to play ageless character): Hachteem is the Dark Prince's head henchman. Sardonic and androginistic, Hachteem's only goal is to please his Master and help rule over the creatures of the "underworld" or "purgatory". Must be STRONG dancer/actor and sing well.

Divinity (18-older to play 18-20ish): Divinity is a dark beauty. Brooding, but sensual and liken to a fallen angel, Divinity is the Dark Prince's mistress. She too helps rule the underworld. Must be strong actress, good singer a plus.

ALSO SEEKING:

Dancers, (Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Belly-dancers. All ages, all ethnicities. Dancers who are GYMNASTS/CONTORTIONISTS also a plus) who can sing and act well to play various ensemble/featured characters in the "real-world" and then play different characters in Purgatory.

Please prepare the following for your audition:

- A short song to be sung accapella
- A brief dramatic monolouge (approximatelly 30 seconds)
- Dancers - please prepare a routine (jazz, ballet, gymnastics, belly dancing, etc. Please note that we are NOT seeking street or hip-hop). Please bring your own music.

If asked to stay, please be prepared to learn music and a brief dance routine. (This is NOT required for all roles. Actors will read only). Call backs to be held later afternoon on the SAME DAY.
